Over the past three months – February to April – a diverse group of young contemporary artists, some coming from as far afield as Cape Town, Zimbabwe and Gaborone in Botswana, assembled together for one full week every month at the Bag Factory Artist Studios, to participate in an interactive professional training course – the Artist Career Boot Camp Programme. This course initiated and first presented in 2017 by Art Source South Africa is supported by a grant from the National Arts Council.
Engaging with the extensive industry experience and sage advice from the facilitator, Les Cohn, of Art Source South Africa, the young aspirant artists gained valuable insights into the workings of the professional art world and how to engage with it in building their careers. In response to the presentations the artists were encouraged to debate and participate in discussions, to examine their career aims and objectives, interrogate their practice, express their individual concerns and their stumbling blocks and share personal stories; through this interactive learning process they not only grew as artists and individuals but also grew together as a group.
“To be continued…..” is an exhibition of new works created over the three-month course by this group of artists. Each artist will show works that manifest the impact that the Artist Career Boot Camp programme made on their practice and ideas.
The works on show are only the beginning of great things to come……
Please join us for snacks and a glass of wine to view the opening chapter of these talented artist’s careers.
