Bag Factory is delighted to announce that Sofia Ana Elise Steinvorth (Germany) will undertake a fully-funded residency at the Bag Factory from 27 Feb - 26 May 2021. As part of TURN 2 RESIDENCY The aim of the project is to facilitate research for emerging curators and cultural practitioners with curatorial experience based in Germany and in the African continent with ambitions to make them the starting point for more international collaborations and knowledge sharing opportunities
BIO
Sofia Steinvorthis a curator, writer and researcher. Her practice draws on human geography, architecture, identity politics and knowledge production in a (post)colonial present. She holds a curatorial degree from Konstfack University, Stockholm and an MA in Culture Studies from the Catholic University in Lisbon. Her MA dissertation focused on knowledge production from an art institutional perspective with the Triangle Network as its case study. Presently, she is an editorial assistant at Electra magazine and a co-editor of a forthcoming book by the Visible Project in collaboration with socially engaged artists whose practices exemplify various forms of translocal solidarity.
RESEARCH
Artistic socio-spatial repair in post-Apartheid Johannesburg
Her research will delve into visual, performative and socially engaged artistic practices that experiment with models of conviviality in post-Apartheid Johannesburg. Urban space as a productive socio-spatial machine will be under close scrutiny to inquire into artistic processes that engage with or add to notions of socially restorative urbanism.
