Open Studio with visiting artist Alexandre Kyungu

Open Studio with visiting artist Alexandre Kyungu

Please join us for a presentation by visiting artist Alexandre Kyungu, followed by an open studio. Alexandre has been on a one-month residency at the Bag Factory Artists’ Studios as the recipient of a Pro Helvetia ANT Mobility Grant.

Alexandre Kyungu lives and works in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts of Kinshasa.

Working in association with Kin Art Studio (KAS), Kyungu combines painting, drawing, sculpture and installation in his practice as an artist. His work is built around questions related to the urban space, exploring the parallels between urban mapping and the scarification of the body. His work functions as a “cartographic essay”, in which he tries to build a new and global world while merging and juxtaposing the maps of different cities. It is a way for him to question the city and the mapping of the city, to erase the boundaries between peoples, and give birth to a single territory in the imaginary space of his work.
