The Bag Factory Artists’ Studios and Kooshk Residency present a new exchange program between Tehran and Johannesburg for two South African and two Iranian visual artists. This exchange program consists of two parts. The first part is held from 1-31 May, 2016 in Johannesburg.
In this one-month residency, the Iranian artists have the opportunity to work in Johannesburg, South Africa and collaborate with the South African artists. The space will be open to local public, artists, students, and art critics. The program will end with a presentation and a panel discussion.
The second part will be held from 1-31 July, 2016 in Tehran, Iran. The same South African and Iranian artists will participate in the second part. There will be a presentation and a panel discussion at the end as well. The application is open for visual artists from South Africa and Iran, interested in site-specific practices and the socio-cultural context of South Africa and Iran. Applicants have to be interested in exchanging ideas and consider the participation in both parts of the projects. Applicants will be evaluated by a committee of the organizers mentioned above and will be informed by e-mail.
For the Iranian artists, accommodation and studio space for a period of one month in Johannesburg will be provided by Bag Factory. All the expenses for airfare, insurance, medical coverage for the duration of the program, any visa fee and the living expenses such as travel and food will be by the artist himself. Iranian artists are responsible for all required travel documents including visa and insurance.
Program for South African artists includes: accommodation (a room to share for two people) and studio space for period of their stay in Tehran that will be provided by Kooshk Residency.
