Bag Factory is delighted to announce that Marcia Harvey Isaksson will undertake a fully-funded residency at the Bag Factory from 1 September 2022 - 30 November 2022. Marcia is supported by Iaspis, the Swedish Arts Grants Committee (Konstnärsnämnden) International Program supporting international exchange for practitioners in the areas of visual art, design, craft and architecture. Biography
Born in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1975; based in Stockholm, Sweden since 1999; Marcia Harvey Isaksson has established herself as a free-lance curator and exhibition designer in Sweden, working mainly with major cultural historical museums and institutions. She also founded Fiberspace, an arena for textile and fiber art, craft, and design in 2015, for which she was awarded the Dynamo Award in 2022 by the Swedish Art Grants Committee.
Artist Statement
Marcia Harvey Isaksson uses textile techniques and methods as a vehicle to investigate place, heritage and histories. How narratives of the past affect the present and the future are often central in her work. As a multi-media artist, she using textiles, video, sculpture and performance to communicate. Her work is included in the Swedish Museum of Ethnography’s African textiles collection. At the Bag Factory, she will continue working on her on-going project “Matriarchs, Myths and Legends” as well as researching her new project “My father’s people”.
